Yota Tony
Well, I guess I'll start this up now.
This weekend I picked up a new future trail rig. I won't lie that it needs some work but it's not that bad at all.

82 Toyota Hilux Short Bed, Regular Cab. 22R, 4spd and a top shift t-case, 4.30 gears.

Here's the problems.

On the 25th it goes to my buddy's place to get the frame and body patched up and maybe set up the suspension, we'll see about that.

Flame away Fackers!
Throttle Happy
No flamin here dude, looks like a good base to start with and those yotas make a very capable trail rig. Oh and welcome to the board.
iboc44
It has speed holes, just like my s10! Welcome dude
ditchpig
Yota's are a good start (dont quote me I'll denie ever saying that) , one in our club has one and we call it the lizard for the way it scampers up the rocks .
Yota Tony
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
I've already got a few things on the way for it.

haha.
Yota Tony
Did some work on cleaning some of the parts up.
Painted the header up. The outlet looks HUGE!

Cleaned up the manifold and carb.

The manifold is an Edelbrock Performer, I think it's OLD because Edelbrock no longer makes it.

The carb is a Holley, again old!

The power steering set up.

Good things come to those who wait.

Picked up some more stuff over the pass couple of days.
63" Chevys BARELY fit into a Civic Hatchback but I got them there.

Got my 2nd case for dual (got a deal on a bunch of stuff case included, won't do duals till next year). The top case is for a friend's Sammy.

Plus carb'd an el cheapo inline filter for my carb.

wow! You guys really have the hate on for those Mr. Gasket fuel filters eh? I'm pretty sure Jamie ran one of those for a little while without any problems. Mind you i would toss the clamps that come with it, that's just asking for trouble. If you wanted to step up a bit Karbelt has these ones in stock.

I think they're about 20-25 dollars each. Not too bad for a cleanable anodized aluminum filter. We ran one of these for a season until i made Jamie go to stainless braided lines and an fittings. Then he had to buy two of these!!!

At about 65 dollars each, they're not the cheapest but man are they BLING!

That's all i have to say about that.
Yota Tony
I'll just get a CT plastic one.

Picked up the truck yesterday.

Here's a few pics I took, the floors, the front axle and the over all truck.

The driver's side front wheel is a lil seized, I'm not sure what it is. Either knuckles or the brakes are seized. Both of which will be rebuilt so I don't really care.
I'm gonna get it running good this week. Need to swap the new carb on, do a tune up and change the oil. This is all dependent on the weather though. If it's cold and/or snowy, screw it.

I'll have some more pics of the thing tonight.

Some more pics of the over all truck, not much of a looker but give me time.

Inside the cab:
Yota Tony
Well, I didn't get much work done this weekend, I worked on a friend's Jeep instead.
I'm going to start prepping it for body/frame work this week and then pull the carb off and rebuild it. I'm not looking forward to doing, it's going to be a learning experience for sure.

Friday afternoon with the help of my buddy's F150, I LITERALLY dragged the Toyota onto my street then pushed it into my drive way. It took some time and some muscle on mine and my neighbours behalfs. The wheels aren't the proper back spacing so they rub like hell on the steering arms/TREs.

Then on Saturday all I did was paint my steering arms and clean all the crap out of my interior. Then I helped my buddy work on his Jeep.

Nasty vynil, we don't need no stinking headliner!

I still need to get rid of the left over fluff shit but I was loosing sun light and it started to rain so called it a night. I've got Friday and Monday off for Easter so I'll use that to get some work done.

Hammered my Ford Shock Mounts.

The truck has already been bobbed by one of the previous owners, one less thing for me to do. However, I now have no where to mount my Chevy springs rear shackle (needs to be back 4" from stock). How do I fix this? Simple, make a bumper/shackle mount. Here's a quick drawing:

What do you think? Should work I'm guessing.
Throttle Happy
Ya should work, just make sure you don't mount the shackles too high on the bumper. The shackle won't be able to come ahead and you will limit your droop by quite a bit.
Yota Tony
I decided I'm just gonna make some LONG shackles.
I'll be doing that along with lots of other junk tomorrow since I've got an extra day off biggrin.gif
Yota Tony
More work!!

Had my buddy Andy rebuild the carb for the truck. He's been rebuilding motorcycle carbs for years so why not have someone with the knowledge do it.

All done and on the truck with the air cleaner too.

I also popped the fenders off too so I can do some body and paint work. Found out that the passenger side rocker is toast. I'm thinking I'll just cut both rockers out and weld some box plate in their place instead.

I tried to completely disassyemble the Chevy leafs so I could paint them and replace the bushings, didn't go as planned. Bolts are seized in both bushings on bolt leafs. Tried to beat and torch them out to no avail. I will try air tools on them and see if that works. Couldn't get the center pin out of one, it's spinning in the leaf so I'll have to work on getting it out.
So once they are apart I will paint them all up and replace what I need too. I also want to put some UHMW-PE(Ultra High Molecular Weight - PolyEthylene) between the leafs.

Yota Tony
Found out about it from Getitdone over on Yota Tech, he posted this link http://www.coloradok5.com/52inchspringswap.shtml. I read about it and since a 4ft by 8ft sheet is only $40, why not try it?

I forgot to post a pic of the new header installed. It only took me about 15 minutes to install it so I don't know why people complain about a header install being hard.

I've got a Flowmaster Hushpower 2 muffler for it that I will weld on eventually. Once it's on I'll get some sound clips.

The man in the brown suit dropped these at my door today. My first part from Marlin but definately not my last.

iboc44
It's coming along nicely. So the plastic in between the leafs does what? Makes them flex better? If so that's a neat idea.

I won't have to worry about binding or wearing between the springs.
shawn
dont most leafs have some kind of plastic on them from the factory .?
Yota Tony
Teflon pads usually.

This will take there place. I'm rebuilding the leaf packs so to speak.
Yota Tony
Picked up my IFS Steering box tonight. No I'm not converting to IFS, I need it because the stock steering is a push pull set up.

I'll be cleaning it up and tapping it for the Hydro Assist tomorrow evening.
Yota Tony
Well, on the way home I decided to work on the Yoter tonight.
So we went about cutting the floors out.

Plus Andy started making new body mounts.

While Chris and I had some beers and munchies.

Yota Tony
Some REAL progress was made this weekend. Fist Andy and I removed the flat bed from the truck and took the gas tank out. Had to cold chisel a captive nut out to drop it which really friggin sucked.

From there we had time to kill till my buddy showed up to help with some more work so we did some less important things.
Half doors!

Grinder with cut off wheels made pretty quick work of it. I chopped up some 3/8" bar I had to make braces/stiffeners for inside the door and then started to plate it off.

Around this point in time, Dylan showed up. Huge thanks to time for making the drive out and staying till 1AM last night fixing my frame.
Here's what it looked like when we started.

Then Dylan started cutting out the frame, we started with the driver's side.

Patch panels were made and Dylan welded them in place. As a note, having breakers in your house that can handle a welder are nice. I kept tripping mine every few minutes and had to go reset thus ADDING time to the whole process.

BAM, finished! No more hole filled rusty frame.

Then we started on the passenger side.

We had to almost totally remake this section of the frame. The only orginal part left is the top and maybe a quater of the outside.

Around this point in time Chris showed up to check on our progress and of course horse around. I also through the Grand Cherokee seats in for shits.

Chris had to test the Flintstone braking system. I don't think it will pass inspection though.

Back to work. Welding started.

Now I stopped taking pictures for a bit because I was tired and simply forgot but here's the finished product with some black paint on it for now. I'll under coat it in the next week days.
Passenger side.

Driver side.

This week I'll finish making the tube doors, still need to put a cup holder in them, plate them and mount things like lock cylinders and door handles.
Also I'm going to start in on welding the new floors in.

I'll get done what I can but I'm busy since I'm getting ready for a trip to the Dominican. I leave on Saturday morning biggrin.gif

Lookin good man!

This frame was pretty good in comparsion to the last frame Dylan did.
It was rotten from about the middle of the doors all the way back. He had to TOTALLY build a new frame for it.
Here's the kicker, that was a 89 (IIRC) Toyota truck. Mines is older and in better shape. Hell, it's even better then his 85 Runner he said.
Yota Tony
Did some more chopping on the Toyota today.
Finished cutting the floors out of it.

Plus I cut the fire wall so I can tub it for the tires.

I personally didn't think this was enough room. The wheel wells still looked a lil small to me so I stood back and looked at the truck.

:idea

This might work I think, no turning back now.

I can fit in my wheel wells now, should work great for the rubber I'm planning.
I'll be welding the floors in this Saturday biggrin.gif

Plus I chopped that damn cow catcher off.
