Click to view attachmentI am pretty sure the 1 L motor in the SJ 410 is shot, it burns and leaks about 4 l of oil per 800 km. So out it comes.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentThen I got a good deal on an 83 RX-7, nearly complete. They go like hell and weigh about the same as the zuk, so I think to my self, why shouldn't the zuk go like hell, I hold it to the floor to go, so why not have a motor that is capable of being help to the floor. In with the rotary.
I had a few problems arise; need body lift, need hydraulic master clutch cylinder mounted, floor clearanced for the starter, and some exhaust made and of course mounts made for the thing.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentThe motor mounts were scrounged from the RX-7, the tranny bolted to the existing mount??? weird, oh well. The oil cooler was not going to fit in under the rad, so it was placed on the fender, and will have a shroud made with a fan or maybe 2, the clutch fan was shot and 25 years old, so in with an electric. I will be doing a DLIDFIS, dual lead coil single trail coil. tune the carb and call it good. When the motor is all good and running strong, I will be putting toy axles under with a spring over, put 31-33" ers on and that will be it.
But as of now I have $400 in the zuk, $400 in the car, $75 in hoses, fittings, clamps, and abotu $50 in beer. So for there is about 20-25 hours, but I am lazy as hell.

That's quite the project. I would be scared about putting a rotary engine in something cause i don't have any idea how to fix them. But that's a good idea. What type of horse power do those engine usually put out?

We are going to need some video of this this when you get it out!

Wankel rotary 1146.00 cc / 69.9 cu in. / 1.1 L, 120.00 BHP (88.6 KW) @ 7000.00 RPM and 112.00 Ft-Lbs (151.9 NM) @ 4500 RPM. Thats stock. I have modded the carb, done the ported exhaust, as much as I have the balls to at least, upgraded the ignition, done the dual plug trick, changed the oils and am running 2 step cooler plugs. The tuner geeks tell me that it should be at the 130 hp now. And thats at the rear wheels of the RX. As of now I have to plumb the exhaust, install the clutch master, hook up the high idle solenoid for cold starts, plumb in the water heater, make a tunnel cover. Then I will get a video for you.

that's messed up! so what would be the most you could get out of one of those? I have no idea, i know nothing about these things? That seems like alot of power for 1.1l. Ya that should be a cool video

Well, it seems as though the rotary has the potential to get a whack out of it, there has to be more porting, I have been told that the recent port job wont do much, but then it may by others. I am sure the n2o kit I have for the Q jet will make its stand for the Zuk, i have to make a plate for the Carb and make it stick, but there will be much an improvment for 10 g RPM and a bit of nos where ever I go. Thanks. More pics soon,

Took it for a little test drive around the block, I have a cheap little 10 g tach that I can bury with the slightest of ease, and this thing squaks the tires well into 4th gear. low range is a little retarded as it only likes 4g rpm, little high for me but I have 100:1 in my jeep.
After about 30miles of driving the motor burned out a coil which I was waiting for, and the t case intermediate shaft is short and I must have placed the ujoints out of phase, they vibrate a bit over 6000 rpm, but I think thats livable. more later.

I was reading about how these things work on the internet....I understand now but i don't get how the inventor came up with the idea. But it seems like they would last allot longer then conventional piston engines seeing as there are only 3 moving parts(not including the oil pump) inside the motor. What type of compression would you see from one of these things? I'm guessing fairly low?

I seem to remember the higher the rpm the higher the compression, hence the high rpm torque and hp range, I don't have a clue what the compression is though. I will throw in a gauge and see this week.

these motors have no low end torque though , in our sport isnt that what counts , might b alright in a light rig though.

Click to view attachment Did a spring over this morning, have room for 33's but I am gonna stick 31" AG tires on it.
Total weight........1480 lbs, with about a half tank of gas as it sits.
I will try to get video soon though, cheers.

I've seen this set up done. My bro's father inlaw did it with his Suk. He just got a 4 barrel intake, carb and a header flange (welded his own headers up). Hes running 33" boggers on open diffs, its wild to see him run it up to 10000 RPM and dump the clutch!!!

The Tcase in the zuk is divorced, made a short intermediate shaft and lined them up, kinda like a tractor puller. only really really small
